January has been a busy month.  We have already been briefed on several large projects from our Capital Improvement Plan; First St reconstruction, the safety center and the library.  Tonight we will hear about the liquor store.  On Monday Feb 2nd we will be voting on the closure of First St and selecting a task force to look at options for a new safety center.  The entire agenda can be found on the Northfield City web site at http://www.ci.northfield.mn.us/.  Please feel free to contact me regarding these issues.

I hope that you will join me for my first Ward Three Meeting on Saturday Feb 7th at 9AM at the Northfield Retirement Community Chapel.  The meeting will start with awards given for volunteerism in the Third Ward, followed by a short presentation and then a question and answer session.

Here we go, I will be sworn in tomorrow at the council meeting.  I, along with two other councilors, have been given the assignment of assessing and improving methods for citizen involvement and input, including our boards and commission.  Obviously I would appreciate as much citizen input as possible on this topic so let me have it!  How do you feel about the open mike?  Why do you use it or not use it, is it effective?  How would you rather communicate with me or the rest of the council.  How would you like us to communicate with you.  I am open to new and innovative ideas so help me brainstorm.

Tonight the evening water aerobics participants at the senior center decided to celebrate my city council victory by tossing me into the deep end of the pool.  Splash!  I learned that some of my lawn signs are going to good use in a friend’s garden protecting her azaleas for the winter.  I am pleased that they can be reused this way.  I have a few more signs if anyone else would like one or two just let me know.

I am very happy, excited and honored to have won the Third Ward City Council seat for the city of Northfield.  I would like to thank everyone for a great turnout.  I look forward to representing the Third Ward and continuing to advance Third Ward issues such as; pedestrian safety, transportation and connectivity, mixed use development, and sustainable practices.

This week I attended a candidate information session on property taxes, observed part of the planning commission meeting, added some pages to this weblog and picked up my lawn signs.  If you would like a lawn sign, send me an email at ericazweifel@gmail.com.  I will continue to update this site with new posts and pages.  Thank you for your interest.

Welcome to my webpage/blog.  I spent this afternoon doorknocking and enjoyed meeting many residents of the third ward.  I am hearing that transportation and connectivity are big issues for you.  I look forward to meeting more neighbors in the coming weeks.
